Lift-height measurement in fork-lift trucks
An intelligent logistic enables the shipment and transfer of increasing goods in ever shorter time periods. Displacement sensors are used to optimize the safety margins when raising and lowering the load, so that when rounding a corner, the truck is not put into a dangerous tilted position. Draw-wire displacement sensors are specially adapted to the requirements on the fork-lift truck. An especially flat construction was chosen so that the sensor could be used in the tight installation space.

Absolute and continuous filling-level measurement
For high precision monitoring of filling levels vipSENSORs are used. The specified length of immersed tube can be optimally used as the measurement range due to the compact design and the very short installed length of the sensor. An aluminum ring is integrated into the float as the measurement object which passes over the immersed tube at the height of the filling level. The sensor is equipped with an ASIC and microcontroller for the adaptation to specific filling-level measurements.

3D inspection and surface assessment of roof tiles
Laser triangulation sensors of the Series optoNCDT measure the surface contour of roof tiles. The complex dimensional-conformance specification of the roof tiles are inspected by moving along defined measurement lines of the roof tiles over the x and y axes.

Co-Planarity of IC Pins
The term co-planarity discribes the proper seating of the tips of fine-pitch device leads on the copper pads on a PCB. The co-planarity is a critical dimension for the quality of the soldered joints, because no reliable and correct soldering can be done if there is a gap between the lead and the pad. In state of the art automatic assembly machines the co-planarity of components is measured during the assembling process. The component to be measured is passed over a triangulation displacement sensor which has a laser beam that scans the row of pins. After the distance readings are acquired the placement plane and the distance of each pin to this plane is calculated. These numbers are used to determine whether the component is placed or must be sorted out from the process.

Measuring the solder-wave height on wave soldering machines
The height of the solder wave is an important criterion to get highest quality results during soldering PCB’s on wave soldering machines. This can be achieved by measuring on the surface of the solder wave itself with a sensor installed above the solder wave.
