Flatness measurement in rolling mills

The surface of rolled sheet must be flawless, for example, for stainless steel fronts in kitchens, or for the automotive field. Due to the enormous tensile forces when rolling the sheet, there is the risk that the tensile distribution varies over the width of the sheet and that the sheet will distort in a wave shape at the edges. The sheet is pneumatically excited to vibrate. The amplitude of the vibration is acquired with non-contacting displacement sensors and from it the tensile stress is computed transversely over the width of the sheet.

Measurement system for roll slit measurement
On a coating machine the size of the roll slit is to be displayed digitally as the reference for the weight of the material coating. Accordingly, a sensor is mounted on the roll frame. Its measurement tip contacts a measurement surface which is permanently joined to the mechanical guide for the upper roll.
