When the washing machine is loaded, the displacement sensor DRA measures how much the outer drum drops. It also measures the drum’s deflection during spin-drying. The displacement sensor provides for static as well as dynamic processes an output signal proportional to the weight. This permits full utilization of the drum volume and helps to determine the required amount of detergent. The ability to sense an imbalance makes it possible to tailor the speed during spindrying. The position sensor can be controlled directly via the washing machine’s micro controller.

With cars, tests on the running gear form the basic requirements for driving safety. As an example, draw-wire sensors are mounted in parallel to the shock absorbers for the vibration displacement measurement. The displacement signal obtained is differentiated to give the vibration velocity and vibration acceleration.

Optical laser triangulation sensors in the series optoNCDT 1605 and optoNCDT 2000 are used for measurements from greater distances. In the illustrated example the ILD 2000 Triangulation Sensor in the protected housing is employed monitoring the movement on a link support
